A while later, after the different factions had been given their sleeping assignments, after the party had gone on far too long, and after Karina had developed a cloudy feeling at the edges of her mind, it was time for bed. She stumbled up the stairs with Willow to her right and Anastasia to her left. Their faction, the Tempête faction, had been assigned the south tower as sleeping quarters. The Incendie faction recruits had been given the Western tower. The Glace faction had been given the apartments down in the basement, which was a relief because Karina did not like the sound of sleeping on the same level of the dungeons. The Enterré faction had been given lodgings in the apartments tucked away on the ground floor down the hall from the kitchens. The Rafale faction had been given what used to be the children’s’ quarters. It was an entire wing on the fourth floor. They would all have their own space, spread out through the castle.

As they reached the seventh and final floor, Karina noticed that a lot of the Coupe-Escadre were wandering around as well. She saw both the Incendie emblem, and the Tempête emblem upon their chests. It occurred to her they would be staying in the same quarters as the already chosen Coupe-Escadre members. Her heart began to hammer inside her chest, as she imagined having another run-in with Sebastian. Why couldn’t they have been given separate quarters?

“They said there are five rooms for us to split, did you two want to share a room with me?” Anastasia asked, as they came to the door that led up to the tower where they would be living.

“Would you be willing to accept one more?” a woman asked, coming up to them. She looked kind with her soft eyes, and round chin. Her black hair was the same color as Karina’s, and she looked to be nearly the same age.

“You’re more than welcome to join us. I’m Anastasia, this is Willow, and Karina.”

Anastasia pointed to each of them, as she introduced them to the new girl. They continued to stand there at the foot of the tower, moving aside so members of the Coupe-Escadre could get in and out. Karina gave the girl a small, drunken smile. She still felt unsteady upon her feet.

“It is nice to meet you, girls. My name is Inez,” said the girl. Karina looked around at the sound of new footsteps. Sebastian was approaching them, so she made a move.

“Okay, are we ready to go up then? I need some sleep,” she said quickly, avoiding his approaching gaze.

“Let’s get our room, before the good ones are taken,” said Willow, opening the door and allowing them inside. Following instructions, the girls climbed up the stairs. They didn’t stop upon any of the first ten levels because they knew these rooms were already assigned. At the bottom of the thirteenth level, they found the five rooms free for them.

“Which one should we do?” asked Anastasia.
